•  The department of biochemistry in the institute functions under the head of Dr. S.V. Mythili , carrying out the daily routine analysis of patients' samples for regular and special tests.

•  The department conducts regular lecture classes for the postgraduate students of the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology and Government Ophthalmic Hospital .

•  Research work is also undertaken in the department and many papers have been published in leading national journals.

•  The department with its efficient technicians assists the postgraduates of the institute in their thesis projects by analysing the required samples and providing valuable inputs.
